This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing healthcare information technology business in the role of Senior Software Engineer, focused on improving the operation of our products for our customers. Reporting into Wolters Kluwer Clinical Effectiveness Director of Sustaining Engineering, you will play an important role in the growth of Sustaining Engineering and supporting our Lexicomp product team. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of our products, supporting and troubleshooting the applications, improving the operational product aspects of our products, and participating in the creation of new functionality. This is an opportunity for someone with a dual passion for solving business critical customer problems and developing software at a leading healthcare information technology company.

Essential Duties and responsibilities


  • Triage, troubleshoot, and quantify Level 3 issues working with Referential technical leadership and Product owners

  • Take a leadership role to ensure that focus is appropriately directed on the proper issues amid competing priorities

  • Resolve Level 3 issues where your expertise enables it

  • Work with the Customer Support, Development, Project Management, and Product Management organizations to address Level 3 issues as they align with projects, releases, patches, and other efforts

  • Recognize patterns of Level 3 issues and potential root causes, and advocate for investigation and/or holistic fixes

  • Work with the developers, testers, and other team members to gain a comprehensive understanding of new and existing products and features

  • Leverage your self-starter instincts and capabilities to discover opportunities to contribute to the Referential development activities

  • Maintain, enhance, and extend Lexicomp's customer facing applications

  • Work closely with software test engineers to develop deep and thorough coverage

  • Advocate for approaches that drive quality and productivity

  • Plan and execute tasks within an Agile/Scrum environment.

  • Remain current with evolving industry trends and technologies in software development

Job Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent


  • 5+ years experience in development, Level 3 support.

  • Experience and technical creativity demonstrated in understanding a complex multi-tiered distributed application

  • Excellent analytical and debugging skills, with strong attention to detail

  • Experience being a leader required to employ solid judgment and influence prioritization of work

  • Strong collaboration skills, within function and across peer stakeholders, and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment

  • Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and listening), with ability to build positive working relationships across multiple groups within the organization.

  • Good judgment, strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and a finely tuned balance of technical purity and pragmatism.

  • Committed, engaged, self-motivated, decisive, adaptable, data driven, transparent and objective

  • Development skills including Java, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to implement modular, high performance, and functional user interfaces.

  • Experience with multiple server-side Java development technologies and tools. A combination of the following is required: Servlets, Spring, XML, JSON, Apache web server, Tomcat, GlassFish, Linux, Perl

  • Experience with SQL Queries.

  • Experience with a relational database such as Oracle or MySQL.

  • Knowledge of common design patterns, design principles and industry best practices.

  • Experience with AngularJS or other JavaScript frameworks is a plus

  • Experience with automated unit and integration testing.

  • Experience with SDLC tools such as Rally, GIT, Eclipse, IntelliJ, and Maven.

  • Experience with iOS and Android client development is a plus.

  • Experience with API design and REST principles is a plus.

  • Knowledge of common design patterns, design principles and industry best practices.
