We are seeking a Vice President of Applications Engineering. This leader will be responsible for a commercial software technology department and the staff within it. The VP will direct a portfolio of large, complex projects and programs significant to the company's operation, as well as negotiate outside the company as appropriate. He or she will negotiate and collaborate with other executives to set departmental-level strategies in support of company goals, and is responsible for their implementation within the department.

The VP of Applications Engineering will be responsible for the successful on-time delivery, quality, and user satisfaction of a cloud-based suite of products and platforms with SOA models. The VP will be in charge of the people, processes, metrics, budgets, tools, skills, training, and results associated with the Agile software development teams of this suite.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple commercial software development teams creating, delivering, enhancing, and maintaining a suite of solutions in the cloud

  • Define performance KPIs for Agile teams as well as Management to drive increased velocity and quality

  • Partner with Product Management and other senior technology leaders to align with goals and achieve product delivery commitments

  • Effectively communicate with upper management, peers, colleagues, and staff through all mediums (voice, written, presentation, social media, etc.)

  • Effectively communicate departmental plans, goals, and status to other departments and divisions while communicating corporate and departmental strategies within their department

  • Responsible for determining departmental budgets and schedules while ensuring they are met

  • Make critical build vs. buy and technology partnering decisions

  • Continually evaluate the organization structure, processes, methodology and tools as a means to enhance both quality and productivity

  • Drive key technology innovation with agility and flexes to increased market based business drivers

  • Monitor and manage the overall talent pool and ensures proactive steps are taken to ensure the company has the resources and skills to meet current and future technology needs

  • Proactively manage performance management and career development of his management team, ensuring they do the same throughout their teams

  • Recruit and hire top talent, demonstrating to others what great looks like

  • Lead transformation efforts, building new teams and ratcheting up existing teams and understands matrix organizations and rational span of control

  • Identify and implement industry best practices throughout the organization including CI/CD and Deployment Models

 

Other Duties

  • Meet with customers in various forums

  • Represent teams and Wolters Kluwer in the community

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • 10+ Years in senior commercial technology leadership positions (software engineering, product management)

  • 3+ years leading commercial suite-wide SaaS and cloud efforts

  • Experience in regulatory or compliance solutions a plus

  • Experience creating, building, and cultivating high performing software development teams

  • Success with Agile methodologies, primarily SCRUM

  • Experience designing and implementing software development Quality Up Front initiatives

  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills

  • Ability to work hand in hand and in partnership with Product Management, peers, and other departments to achieve product delivery goals which meet market needs.

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor of Science, Computer Science or equivalent. MBA or equivalent experience desired.

 

Other Knowledge:

  • SaaS, Cloud, CI/CD/DevOps, Agile, SCRUM, departmental budgets, quality up front, metrics

  • Prefer candidates with experience on Microsoft technology stack (C#, .NET, SQL Server, HTML5, Azure PAAS)

  • Has a track record of driving positive change throughout an organization.

 

Travel Requirements:

  •  Up to 25% overnight travel required (both domestic and international)
