Basic Function

The Strategy Analyst works with the heads of Legal & Regulatory to create and evaluate business plans to generate revenue growth, improve margins, and enhance operations.

The Analyst plays an important role in the evaluation of LR strategy, and the assessment of product portfolio integrity.

Activities of the Strategy Analyst include: learning the full line of LR products/services including features, benefits, pricing, intended use, value proposition and competitive position; conducting ongoing evaluation of market segments and product portfolios; contributing to Merger and Acquisition research; initiating business development projects to generate revenue growth; participating in inter-organizational activities to meet or exceed company objectives; and representing Wolters Kluwer within the industry. Specific responsibilities and requirements follow.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of market segments and product portfolios by obtaining strategic information critical to the market (e.g., interests, priorities, technology trends, financial requirements); segmenting the market to create specific product strategies and tactics; addressing each segment's needs and requirements; developing strategies for improving or leveraging existing products; identifying and analyzing potential product/service divestment candidates; synthesizing information from analysis into an overall product roadmap that best articulates the value proposition of the market; helping to prioritize opportunities such that investments are made logically, do not exceed available resources, and optimize the overall health of the business; and organizing information to continue a disciplined surveillance of market segments and portfolios.

  • Supports the overall coordination and execution of strategic initiatives to generate revenue growth and EBITA impact by establishing and evaluating business development plans; analyzing financial and customer data to structure key business issues related to planning; recommending appropriate treatment based on rigorous analysis; ensuring plans comply with Wolters Kluwer corporate standards and goals; monitoring and tracking project progress throughout the initiative; identifying and addressing issues that may delay completion or increase costs; and creating presentations and reports to convey project statuses, objectives, achievements, and intricacies to executive staff.

  • Participates in inter-organizational activities to meet or exceed company objectives by participating in thought provoking, strategic discussions with departmental leadership; sharing insight with other leaders regarding strategy and operation; providing leadership and being an active partner with the business units; identifying opportunities to collaborate across business units and leverage partnerships; collaborating with peers to develop and advance company-wide initiatives and strategies; and serving as a business leader, thought leader, and role model within the organization.

  • Analyzes LR business unit performance based on variety of historical and forecasted attributes (ie revenue growth, customer behavior, product mix, and strategic fit); harnesses large data files using Excel/Access to isolate key trends and model business impact of various recommendations; manages and develops segmentation strategies and pricing strategies/frameworks for the business to enable initiatives such as digital migration, segment growth, sales acceleration programs, portfolio management, etc.

  • Manages comprehensive strategy and implementation to provide data driven insights to guide the business. Includes management of infrastructure requirements, collaboration with other WK departments, creation of long and short term implementation plans, delivery of training in use of tools and insights.

  • Works cross functionally with teams to represent strategic insights on major initiatives such as VSP annual strategy exercise

Education: BA or BS, MBA or MS preferred, or equivalent experience

Experience: Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related discipline; Preferred: Master's Degree in Business Administration, or if no MBA/MS then 3+ years related analytical work experience

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Excellent analytical, creative thinking, interpretation and problem-solving skills with the ability to look into the details, interpret the impact of key business drivers and synthesize the 'so what's'

  • Excellent research analysis including the ability to conduct market sizing, segmentation and growth analysis

  • Excellent planning, organization, prioritization and time management skills as required managing multiple projects simultaneously and achieving goals within timeframes and against expectations without conflict

  • Consulting mentality--extracting insights from very complex and/or limited information to make a recommendation to stakeholders; ability to clearly communicate concepts, research findings, issues analysis, project and evaluation results, and data interpretations

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization

  • Results-oriented; able to take concepts and ideas through from implementation to action.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be proactive, and think independently, and anticipate needs related to future work.

  • Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate concepts, research findings, issues analysis, project and evaluation results, and data interpretations

  • Demonstrated capacity to learn and apply skills and knowledge to unique and varied situations

  • Ability to work independently and achieve goals with minimal supervision

  • Expert Excel skills i.e. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, valuation modeling etc. Access skills a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent formal presentation and listening skills
