The Senior Application Developer is responsible for designing and developing programming solutions to support business development. S/he will work with the Manager of IT Applications Development to implement development strategies and provide input on new designs and system architectures. The ideal candidate can design and develop well-tested, high performance, scalable applications in .NET environment. This role is ideal for self-starters who enjoy solving complex problems and working closely with a strong team of developers, QA analysts, and project managers.

  • Extend and maintain existing software solutions. Take responsibility for applications design, development, and support.

  • Understands business issues, data challenges including weaknesses and recommend process improvement

  • Ensures issues are identified and tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner

  • Design and implement solutions to deliver on new functionality and extend existing capabilities with ability to write programs and code applications from user stories.

  • Conduct code/architecture reviews and participate in estimating and planning sessions.

  • Contribute (hands-on) to the architecture / design, development, and testing of new and existing software solutions. Design and develop platform as an Agile/SCRUM team member.

  • Evaluate risks related to each solution design / project, and work with management to build risk mitigation strategies.

  • Provide leadership on assigned projects to ensure group tasks are appropriately delegated and completed according to an established schedule

  • Document database and applications both from a functional and a technical perspective.

  • Understands database models and applications designs and able to determine effective programming methods to achieve optimal results.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand how projects fit into the service roadmap and architecture

  • Collaborate with offshore developers to ensure timely delivery per the specification

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to guide test strategies and troubleshoot identified issues

  • Work on the product backlog of features and bugs as assigned; provides estimation required to code, document and unit test functionality assigned.

  • Participates in planning and end-user review sessions

  • Stay current on new technologies and best practices

Education:

Desired Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of business applications development experience in a .Net, MVC, SQL Server 2008 and higher, and Agile / Scrum development environment. essential

  • Experience in the planning and estimating of small to mid-sized Web application development & enhancement projects essential.

  • Experience in business / web application development using ASP.NET, C#, VB .NET, XML, XSLT, Angular2, jQuery, JavaScript, JSON, Ajax, MS Ajax toolkit, MVC framework, Entity Framework, Angular, Microservices, LINQ, WCF, .NET WebApi or creating RESTful web services, and other integration tools essential

  • Experience using SQL Server including table creation and the development of stored procedures and SSIS packages, triggers and constraints preferred.

  • Experience in Object Oriented Design and Analysis using UML tools and/or other design tools preferred.

  • Experience with object relational mapping (ORM) tools preferred.

  • Experience with commonly used design patterns preferred.

  • Experience in directing small teams of offshore developers in a tech lead / team lead or supervisory capacity preferred

  • Solid technical and personnel decision making / problem solving abilities; self-starter with a positive team and work ethic.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Publishing industry experience is a plus.

  • C/C++, Java, MarkLogic experience is a plus.

  • Ability to adapt and use emerging technologies quickly

  • Ability to self-manage projects and deliver on time while meeting the businesses' needs.

  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects at one time.

  • Ability to lead small .NET development offshore team

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical designs and solutions to both technical and non-technical business stakeholders
