SQA Engineer - 18-20540

The Software Quality Assurance Engineer II is a mid-level position in which the engineer is primarily responsible for planning, creating and executing manual and automated software test activities as a member of a software development team. Employees in this position must understand the Software Development Life Cycle and develop an understanding of current products and technology in order to design and implement quality solutions to meet business needs.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Work closely with business analysts, software engineers, and product owner as part of a highly effective development team

  • Analyse and dissect system requirements and technical specifications to ensure testability

  • Design, develop and maintain test automation systems, tools, and scripts

  • Run both manual and automated test plans to find bugs, defects and regressions in product functionality

  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, browsers, or network environments

  • Document software defects and report defects to software engineers

  • Write and execute load and performance test cases and scripts

  • Follow processes or procedures outlined for capturing data necessary for metrics reporting. Determine appropriate metrics that enable the team to understand and continuously improve their processes, techniques and technologies from a quality perspective

  • Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of test environments

  • Provide regular on-time completion of tasks, efficiency in the completion of work, and the ability to easily identify all outstanding work and the status of each work item

  • Work in a continual test mode and collaborate effectively with team's Product and Project Owners on issues and conflicts that impact time, cost, scope, quality, and risk

  • Assist on team efforts in facilitating releases to environments, assist with validation of environments post-deployments

  • Execute dynamic web application vulnerability scans to ensure application code adheres to security standards

  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions

  • Select an appropriate testing approach/strategy and effectively communicates approach to project team

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields

Experience:

  • 4-5 years of experience in software application development or quality assurance, with hands-on exposure to design, coding and testing.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Knows and understands complexities of networks, operating systems, browsers, and databases

  • Knows how to create XML and flat files.

  • Has basic understanding of batch processing

  • Has understanding of cost basis and gain/loss reporting

  • Has basic automation experience in Selenium WebDriver

  • Able to communicate orally and in writing with a wide variety of personalities
